Remembering Janet's board of directors extended congratulations to our first scholarship recipients on February 12, 2017. Board members were guests at Spring Arbor University, where Mr. Danny Lacy, the university’s Director of Planned Giving, arranged for us to meet our scholars—Quinn Colvin and Shyanne Savage—for lunch and fellowship.

Flowers adorned the center of our table, and a quiet corner location allowed for relaxed conversation. The setting made it easy for all of us to get to know one another better, and we took a moment to formally recognize Quinn and Shyanne for their scholarship achievements.

Shyanne is a sophomore, pursuing camping ministry. Inspired in part by her own transformative, week-long, summer camping experience, she says she wants to help youth “understand the power of God and his grace . . . as well as the power of community to encourage, uplift and support.” She intends to lead people—particularly juvenile delinquents—in discovering the “restoration that occurs when they invite God to shape how they see their past, present and future.”

Quinn is a junior, studying youth ministry. She tells us that she has a “dream . . .  to provide a safe place for teens to have healthy fun and discover their talents and passions . . . to not only meet their physical and emotional needs, but to meet their spiritual needs.” She envisions establishing a Detroit-based “center . . . where teens can find ultimate healing through encountering Christ . . . [and] begin their life-long journey with Him.”

Shyanne and Quinn are inspired to model Christ’s love to troubled youth. Pictured here, the young women hold certificates, acknowledging the $2,000 scholarship award each received in December of 2016.

Meeting the young ladies in person added to our excitement over their roles in ministry. They both already influence people they know to love Christ. We can't wait to see their legacies unfold further.
